CD1 Track 62
A = Angeles J = Jason
A: Oh, that's an interesting building. What is it?
J: The Hoover Building? Oh, that's a supermarket.
A: A supermarket? You have lovely supermarkets here, Jason!
J: Well, they planned it as a factory in the 1930s. So it was a factory for years before it was a supermarket.
A: Oh, I see.
J: Yes, in fact, my grandfather worked there in the 1960s, after he married my grandmother. But he stopped working there a long time ago. He produced electrical equipment.
A: Really?
J: Yes, it only opened as a supermarket about 30 years ago.
A: That's interesting. You know, there's a building in Madrid like that, I mean, it changed from one thing to another – the Reina Sofia. It's an art gallery now.
J: Oh, yes. I know it. I visited it when I was in Madrid last year. It's fantastic! It's all 20th century art, isn't it?
A: That's right. It's my favourite gallery – you know I studied modern art – I often go there. I love Guernica, you know, the famous painting by Picasso.
J: Of course. What was it before, then?
A: It was a hospital – doctors and nurses lived and worked there, and looked after sick people. They started changing it into a gallery in 1980, then the gallery opened in 1992.
